Ramadan Spirit from Abdullah Quilliam, Baron Headley and Marmaduke Pickthall, the Great British Islam

Ramadan, a priceless month, gives many spirits for all of Moslem in this world. There are many activities which make Ramadan to be a unique month. The first is Sahoor when people wake up in early morning for first eating. They eat together with Thank God until sunrise. The next, reading Al-Qur'an makes their days valuable. Factually, reading Al-Qur'an can do every day but it will be different when it is did in Ramadan when Moslem rise their intensity to do it. In common day or common month, Moslem only read Al-Qur'an at least when they have time, however in Ramadan they can do it at least one day one juz. It is caused by their spirit to read Al-Qur'an go up in Ramadan. In addition, the good activity of Ramadan also includes helping the others, especially for poor people. It is usually called as Zakat that is given not only for poor people, but also for orphan, ibn as-Sabil, and people who have debt. Zakat would be given in the last month of Ramadan.

Terawih become the next famous activity in Ramadan, because it is the particular prayer, makes Moslem much closer with God that only do in the month. Ramadan also consists of Euphoria in bazaar which sells diverse of food and drink that all people need them for preparing their breakfasting. It creates the rising brotherhood of each other. They, especially for children, get most loved from the others. Thus, the month is called as Lovely month.

In Ramadan session, the writer would like to share about one of history that has relation with widely of Islam in Britain. The history accords to Great British Islam. Great British Islam, a documentary of BBC, tells Islamic clandestine story in Britain. It includes three Victorian gentlemen, Abdullah Quilliam, Lord Headley, and Marmaduke Pickthall, who embraced Islam especially in West Word. Every one of them had special story that makes them become member of Great British Islam. They had the superiority by themselves to be greatest British Islam.

First of all was Abdullah Quilliam, born in Liverpool, had an original name William Henry Quilliam. He became the first Moslem of Victorian and established the growth of Islam in the clan. Besides, he built a mosque and an Institute to evolve Islam in his state. The name of the University is Liverpool Muslim Institute which not only was built for Muslim but also for non-Muslim. The Institute also published a magazine, Crescent, told about the news of Islam in Britain especially and Muslim World properly beside about Science Lecture. The next greatest person was Lord Headley, the 5^th Baron of Headley, was born at 1855 and died at 1935. He was the student of Abdullah Qulliam and got invitation from Abdullah to spread Islam. He spreads Islam by moving to other countries such India and did Hajj at 1923. Marmaduke Pickthall, the third Greatest British Islam, added Muhammad on his original name. He was born at 1875. The fame of him was he translated the Holy Al-Qur'an from Arabic to British Language. In addition, the first translation was published at 1930.

In a nutshell, the history gives spirit to Moslem because their fighting to make Islam widely is good story.

Shanna Bukhari, UK’s Miss Universe, Met five Women are Converting to Islam to find what brings women to faith?

Islam, the truth religion, diffuses widely in this world such West World. There are many evidence that expound the truly of Islam. Islam gives the rightness direction for every one who needs directive in their life. In other word, the going up of British women are converting to Islam, Shanna Bukhari, a 26-year-old from Manchester, would like to find out the reasons of it.

In the beginning, Bukhari visited Claire, since becoming a Muslim her name is known as Sofia, was a lapsed Christian. She told to Shanna that she can be stylish and modest although she wears hijab. Sofia also did not mind that dressing more conservatively as she doesn’t feel she needs to let everything hang out. She still feels enjoy whenever She be the only Muslim in her village. In her family, her mother supports her fairly and her father always defends his daughter from her friends, may not understand why she has converted and view her as a traitor, down the pub.

In the second time, Shanna traveled to Glasgow to meet Alana, 20-year-old media student, converted to Islam two years before Shanna met her. Before converting to Islam, Alana met Abdullah, now is her fiancé, introduced her about Islam. Alana is currently taking a weekly Islamic Studies course and also hopes to learn Arabic so she can understand what Abdul’s family are speaking about. Although Alana appeared to be very happy it seemed that she has no lost contact with her friends and she felt she can socialize with them as they are all heavy drinkers. The only change was she did not go clubbing with them. The meeting of Alana and Shanna only turned up frosty for five minutes, however now they are being good mates.

The third woman was Lisa, a Pakistan girl, converted to Islam for her husband since two year ago. She has three daughters who have different habit about hijab, one of them wears hijab and the others do not. When Lisa was still a wild child and still had tattoos, however her experience to conversion began when she was 14, when she met her future husband. Her husband allows him to be married more than one wife, thus Lisa became the second wife. Lisa appears to hate her co-wife and has laid down firm ground rules to her husband that he’s not allowed to have sex with her but at the same time it appears as if all of her in-laws hate her. Her sister, Kimberly, was angry with Lisa because Lisa was like single parent however she has husband. Indeed Shanna has similar views saying that the whole idea makes her sick and it appeared to me as if Lisa had made the ultimate sacrifice just to be with the man that she loved.

Inaya, poor girl be even harder for converts who aren’t married as women, converts into Islam don’t have the same opportunities to meet a husband as those born into the faith. Inaya who is having trouble finding a man due to the fact that she is a convert to the religion and feels that there are a few channels open to women like her. Inaya converted to Islam several years ago when she was going through a difficult time and started learning about the faith through her Muslim friends. Now at 28 she’s ready to get married however she finds it difficult to meet a partner when most of the Muslim weddings are arranged by families who are close to one another. Even when taking part in Islamic speed dating she has been insulted by men who claim that she is too old or who fear that she may revert to her old western ways. Shanna personally found story of Inaya fairly depressing as it appears as if her new faith has stopped her finding a man. This makes her tough that it would not happening if she had not converted to the faith, nevertheless she felt happy to know that she had found love after this documentary was filmed.

The rest of the story told about Aisha, a model same as Shanna, stopped being model after converting to Islam. She is more relaxed in her religious but always considers what she is wearing on the catwalk. From the story, Shanna also re-explores her own faith and was going to be Muslim. She went to Alana once again who told that she should not be a Model. Then, after receiving two different kind of advice, in the last Shana decided she would begin to go to mosque and takes a pray there.
